The Caernarvon and Denbigh Herald of 7th August 1936 reported that “At a meeting of the Lleyn Peninsula Football League held on Wednesday, presided over by Rev T Woodings BA, Llanbedrog, offocers were elected for the newly formed league as follows : President, Mr H Griffith, Empire Fruit Stores; the Rev T Woodings was elected chairman of the committee and Mr Gordon Williams, Trevor, vice chairman; Mr Roberts NP Bank was appointed treasurer, and Mr T Gwynedd Roberts, New Street, secretary.
It was decided that the league be affiliated with the Welsh Football Association. The entries to the league will be closing at the end of this month and they must be in the hands of the secretaries on or before the last Saturday in August.”
The League was accepted by the FAW and in the restructuring of the North Wales game was designated the Welsh League North Div III Lleyn Area
A further report in the Caernarvon and Denbigh Herald of 25th September 1936 “A meeting of the [Lleyn & District Junior League] was held at Pwllheli on Wednesday, September 16th, Rev T Woodings, Llanbedrog, being in the chair.
“ The following fixtures were arranged:
Sept 26 Pwllheli Reserves v Trevor AFC
October 10 Abersoch v Pwllheli Reserves
Llanbedrog v Trevor
October 17 Trevor v Pwllheli Reserves
“ This League is run for the purpose of helping junior football, and it is open to any junior club. If any clubs are desirous of joining they should communicate with Mr E M James, Glancynon, Ffordd y maer, Pwllheli (hon secretary)”
Membership was limited, it has been reported, to towns/villages within a 30mile radius of Pwllheli but this was later expanded.
Five clubs were formative members: 
Portmadoc Reserves, Trevor Athletic and Pwllheli FC Reserves who left the Bangor and District Area together with Llanbedrog FC and Abersoch Athletic. It would appear that the latter two clubs were formed at this time.
The League expanded for the 1937-38 season with newcomers Criccieth Town taking the title which they retained in 38-39 by ten clear points.
Restarted again in 1946 following the Second World War, it became a strong unit of ten clubs after the withdrawal of RAF Penrhos. Tanygrisiau FC won the title but did not take part in the following season due to ground availability problems.
1947-48 was the final season in this League’s short, but locally extremely important, history as the formation of a Second Division West to the Welsh League (North) and a Second Division to the Cambrian Coast League took its toll.
Three clubs left to join the Welsh League set-up – champions Abersoch Athletic, Cookes United (the works team of Cookes Explosives Ltd based at Penrhyndeudraeth) and Portmadoc Reserves.
The Cambrian Coast took Talsarnau FC and Harlech Town Reserves with three others Nevin United, Trevor Athletic and Criccieth Town Reserves switching to the Bangor & District League soon to become the present Caernarfon & District League. 
Bottom placed Lithfaen Rovers may have disbanded as no record of them can be found in subsequent seasons.
